Traveling to Portugal with Oxycodone

I’m taking a cruise next Fall that starts in Portugal and ends in Rome. Reportedly opioids are banned but supposedly can bring them in with MD prescription and medication in original bottle. Has anyone had problems with this?

If you are just doing day trips during the cruise-- would you be carrying the meds with you?

Although if you have the original prescription and container then should be ok.

Might be an idea to check with the cruise operator, as they would be meeting with this every trip.

Having taken many many cruises - sometimes 3 a year before covid I have never had them check my prescriptions on the ship nor on land.

The cruise leaves from Lisbon so I will be flying into Portugal and joining cruise after 2 nights in the country. The cruise ends in Rome so I’ll be going through customs there as well. I wouldn’t worry if I was just getting off for day trips.

I have gone through customs without problems but it won't hurt to follow Madlegs advice.

I envy you the cruise. My husband is afraid of long covid so we haven't been on any cruises since before the pandemic.

He's right about cruises and covid. I got Covid on my Alaskan cruise and many people I know have gotten it while on cruises. I take the chance though because I absolutely love cruising. Didn't get it on my most recent one.

I take a GP letter confirming the opioids are prescribed for RLS with my meds in original boxes. Never had a problem in Europe.

I always wrap doctor's prescription round opioid box just in case.I have had no problems going to USA & Spain.

When going for a few days do you bring the entire pill count with you or just enough for the trip with a few to spare in case of delays? I would be anxious of possible losing my entire monthy supply to theft or my own misplacement of my travel bag. These pills are like gold and I know most doctors won't replace any lost or misplaced opiods as a standard practice. I'd rather have those not needed for the trip safe at home tucked away. I just know some authorities are picky with pill counts matching the bottle date and dosages taken so they don't think you've pedalled the rest on the street. My own little paranoia scenerio probably. I'm sure most people have no problems.

Haven’t gone yet so can’t answer your question though I understand your anxiety about losing medications! I have the same anxiety! The International Narcotics Control Board lists the maximum amount of narcotics that you can bring in. I’ll be arriving from US in Portugal and returning to US from Italy. They both list a supply of 30 days as the maximum.

I always take the whole holiday supply needed plus a few days to spare in case of delays.I think honestly you just have to not worry about the what ifs. If you over worry you will never leave the house.

I went on a cruise last spring from Barcelona to France and Italy. I took all my medications with me in my carry on backpack. No one ever look at any of them. Where did you hear they were not allowed?

The International Narcotics Control Board has the regulations for every country.

I see, But how do they know what meds you are carrying with you? I’ve never had my meds searched.

Not what you're looking for?
