Needing a neurologist conversant with RLS in Sydney Australia or thereabouts
Shumbah might be able to help.If she doesn't reply to this post, then I suggest that you message her directly.
All the best,-in your quest!
(See-- poetry at this hour---- what a service!!!😎☘️)
Would you travel to Sydney?
Who is the sleep specialist you see currently?
woolcock.org.au/our-experts...
I know this sleep specialist is aware of RLS.
But message Shumbah as well.
Dr Brendan Yee which Joolsg recommended is good, but don't let him take you off pramipexole faster than 1/2 a .125 tablet every 2 weeks which he did someone else on the forum. Also he told her to wait a week after off the DA before starting gabapentin when one should start it 3 weeks before you are off pramipexole.
To be honest most neurologists are going to prescribed DA and they can totally destroy your relationship with your GP .
if they don’t prescribe opioids for RLS that could be risking .
I will send a message to a man I helped I think he may be in Sydney I believe hes on norsapn patch and getting relief . I know when he is not well because I hear from him.
Is your GP helpful ? Because I’m seeing my GP on Monday perhaps there is away we could get them on a phone conference together when you are in an appointment so you can be prescribed Subutex . My Doctor now has half a dozen patients successfully on
Buprenorphine / Subutex
Send me message so we exchange numbers please , I. Happy to call you
Professor Brendon Yee is at RPA in Camperdown as well as at the Woolcock Institute . He is a respiratory specialist who became interested in RLS as he discovered many people in his sleep studies have RLS. He is now one of the few Australian experts on RLS.
He wrote an article on Restless Legs Syndrome for the Australian Journal of General Practice (AJGP) along with James Di Michael and Budhima Nanayakkara published in Sept 2023. It is up to date with the latest from the US.
I saw him recently and he now recommends slow withdrawal from DAs ( he previously advised fast but told me he has changed his approach as too fast can be dangerous.)and taking Pregablin or Gabapentin.
Ive been flying down from the north coast nsw to see him as I haven’t been able to find a neurologist who knows anywhere near as much as him.
one problem is he doesn’t prescribe opioids although he is in favour if them in principle. He told me he doesn’t have enough expertise in opioids. ( I sort of read that to mean he’s a bit fearful of prescribing but not really sure).
I am about to start withdrawal from DAs and change to whatever I can get to work for me after over 2 decades on DAs. I will now probably go back to a neurologist on the Gold Coast ( close to me) who will be okay with prescribing gabapentin and opioids. She is pretty unaware of the recommended withdrawal schedule and DAWS issues I’ll be dealing with so I’ll keep showing her links Ive been able to get from Sue Johnson, Jools and madlegs etc ( thank you thank you!!)
Good luck
