Foot wrap shows promise as drug-free option to treat restless legs syndrome

Written by Catharine Paddock, Ph.D. on June 28, 2016

An adjustable foot wrap that applies pressure to two muscles in the foot may offer patients with restless legs syndrome an effective alternative to drugs as a way to ease symptoms when trying to rest or go to sleep. In a pilot study, researchers found the device was 1.4 times as effective as a standard drug treatment.

It is interesting but it doesn't really give any details on how the study worked. For example were the subjects taking ropinirole not taking any drugs before the study or already on ropinirole.

I used the Restiffic foot wrap ( I bought it via my cousin in the USA) in 2016. More money wasted. I suspect it may help occasional, mild RLS using 'distraction' as it causes severe tightness, pain around the foot.

But it did not help my severe RLS.
