So hubby finally had neurology appt with private consultant last week. He was fantastic and very understanding. His recommendations included Buprenorphine (which is what hubby was hoping for), and surprisingly our GP prescribed it!! So the 5mcg/hour was in place by Wednesday this week. However, I know it's very early days, but last night was one of his worst- unsettled till after 4am, then managed 20 mins here n there till he got up at 9am. My question is for those already taking Buprenorphine, did you have a quick result and what is preferable, patches or tablets?
We're remaining hopeful that this WILL help.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
From a very concerned spouse.

Aw sorry if my earlier messages weren't clear. He was on pramipexole last year and early into this year n when he augmented he withdrew from it. GP encouraged him to try rotigotine patches saying they would not cause augmentation. Of course that didnt work so he came off them gradually and took gabapentin as well. The whole time he suffered terribly, as you can imagine. It's 3 weeks since he hasn't used a ritigotine patch, so we thought that he would be able to start the buprenorphine. That is all he is taking at present, he has ran out of gabapentin, but GP wanted him to try buprenorphine on its own to see how effective it is.
Thanks for the extra information. We hear this incorrect information all the time. Rotigitone most definitely causes severe augmentation and I'm getting sick of the negligence from UK doctors.
As he's only been off Rotigitone for 3 weeks, he will STILL be suffering withdrawal symptoms. They last months.
Buprenorphine patches do work for a few members BUT they all report that the patches run out after 4 or 5 days. Also 5mcg is the smallest dose and he may need the 10 or 15mcg patch.
Pills may be better for your husband.
He can ask for 0.2 or 0.4mg sub lingual pills.
The average effective dose of sub lingiap pills is 1mg to 1.5mg but most people on here get full cover on between 0.4 and 0.8mg.
So do go back to GP and ask for either 0.4mg pills or the 10mcg patch, but explain that most members say they run out on.day 4.
I've been on Buprenorphine a little over 3 weeks now and it immediately helped me. I'm in the US ,my GP prescribed 2 mg tablets(under the tongue). I went.straight off my hydrocodone with no problems. I hope he finds relief with Buprenorphine, its a miracle drug!
Thanks for that. It's good to hear its working for you. Still no improvement for him after a week, think he'll probably need a higher dose. Unfortunately he's on a patch as he has oral issues so tablets won't be suitable.
so my husband started Suboxone last Friday. First night great. Next two nights he had anxiety, insomnia, etc. he is also on 2 tabs of Horizant (1200mg). Which one should he get off of
Sorry I can't advise, I'm not sure what those tablets are. Perhaps you could post it on the main link. I'm sure Sue, Joolsz or someone will be able to help. Good luck
Just googled these and realise they are buprenorphine and gabapentin, so sorry. My hubby doesnt take gabapentin (horizant) at moment however he is currently on buprenorphine (subozone) patches. He started 2 weeks ago on 5mcg n after a week it was increased to 10mcg. This, so far, has been unbelievable. He's getting 7-8 hours sleep each night and already I can see his 'old self' returning. I hope your husband can persevere and get same results. It's awful n we as the spouses feel helpless. I hope you get more guidance from the others, as mentioned, regarding what to come off of but persevere with the buprenorphine. Again, good luck
Yes he did/does, however the symptoms are settling as the gets used to it. He's had 7 uninterrupted hours last night n he's now up n brighter in himself. So hoping for same for your hubby and you !!
Hi I have been taking Brurenorphine since June this year I take it orally I take 200mcrogrms every 8 hrs and it works for me I had severe RLS which affected me early evening when sitting to watch TV and this would ease before bed but then around 10 pm it kicked really bad it came to the point that my Doctor had to stop premiprexol as I was at the highest dose and he had to take me off this drug went on to tramadol for a while but these drugs only work for short periods and then same again the dose needs to be made higher what happened was I was in so much pain and stressed and no sleep felt really ill couldn't get appointment with my Doctor so a went to out of hours surgery Bardoc is the service here in the UK.this doctor knew everything about RLS and it's condition I was amazed about all he knew he then went onto tell me about Burpernorphine and how it was used back in the 70s in the US for dug addiction.to cut a long story short he made out a 4 day prescription for me he did say that my own GP may not prescribe it for me but fortunately for my Doctor agreed to prescribe this medication and its a god send to me after suffering over 30 years with RLS I know there are so bad right ups over prolonged use but I'm willing to take the risk it's made my life worth living * hope everyone can have some release from this terrible affliction and hopefully with the research with Nidra we will all be medication free.🤞😊
Yes not enough GPs in the UK are clued up RLS and refuse to prescribe Bruprnorphine I wish we didn't have to go to these extremes just to live a normal life I do hope in the future someone dose find a cure for this affliction 🤞
