Attended an appointment with my personal doctor to discuss getting off pramipexole. I was armed with the Mayo updated algorithm printed out. After a few minutes my doctor said, "You probably know more about this than I do," which is a credit to the knowledge I've gained from this site. He agreed to prescribe pramipexole in lower doses so I can taper off and to try iron supplementation (ferritin is 44). If that doesn't work he will refer me to a neurologist. Found some options from this site and the rls.org site.

Well done! Remember to go slow. If your doctor is this willing to listen, you can educate him. He will probably have enough general experience to discuss most problems you may encounter. Keep us posted on your progress. Hopefully you will feel better soon.
That's great. A doctor not afraid to admit that, is a good doctor indeed.
Do be careful of the ones on the rls.org site. Although the doctors have been submitted to this list by someone who used them and found them knowledgeable or by doctors who have applied to be on the list, they still might want to prescribe dopamine agonists which you don't want and/or they might not prescribe opioids if you need them. If it is a person that submitted the name they might have been happy with a dopamine agonist and without an opioid. The best way to find out if they are knowledgeable and up-to-date is to ask if they have read the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS.
WTG!
