Nexlizet (Nustendi (UK) is a cholesterol lowering drug that is not a statin, but I don’t know if it exacerbates RLS symptoms. Ezetimibe (Zetia) reduces cholesterol although it doesn't reduce cholesterol as fast as the statins, but according to Chris Columbus it didn't trigger his RLS. And then there are Triglide (Fenofibrate, Fibricor, Lipantil, Lipofen, Supralip) and Bezafibrate (Bezalip) which are not statins which seem safe. You might want to discuss these with your doctor. A more difficult way to reduce cholesterol is to go vegan. My husband lowered his cholesterol from 221 to 131 this way.

Are you aware that up to 70% of people will eventually suffer augmentation from neupro according to the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS which believe me you don't want because it can be hell to come off it and the longer you are on it, the harder it will be to come off it and the more likely your dopamine receptors will be damaged so that the now first line treatment for RLS gabapentin or pregabalin won't work nor might iron. And one expert believes everyone will eventually suffer augmentation. Check out the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm on RLS which discusses augmentation and the latest guidelines on RLS treatment.Https://mayoclinicproceedings.org/a...

Tks Sue I I’ll leave the cholesterol lowering drugs for now as cholesterol level is only (5.6) it was prescribed to prevent future blockages. I have been able to lower the iniatiàl dose so fingers crossed for no augmentation

I take Ezetimibe and it doesn’t bother my legs.

I'm presuming your 7pm pill is in the evening, and the 8 o'clock is the morning?

That's grand,so.

But you do realise that the patch will cause you bother at some time in the future..

You might want to be reading up on augmentation.

Well done for twigging the statin!

Good luck.

Hi Madlegs. Good to see are still around !

No it’s 7pm and n jour later at 8 m. .I don’t get the RLS much in the day unless I sit fora while . I know about augmentation but the patch seems different for now 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Taking opioid effectively in one dose is not great practise. It needs to be spread out across the 24 hrs evenly.

Do you not get mini withdrawals during the night?

After I insisted that I was not going to take a statin any more (as much because of the other side effects that I was suffering - extreme tiredness and joint/muscle pains, on top of the awful RLS) I felt so much better.

My consultant was keen that I took ezetimibe instead, which I did for a long time. However, after treatment for prostate cancer I was left with post-radiotherapy proctitis of the bowel, and I eventally had - with the agreement of my GP at the time - to stop taking the eze. It took me a long time to work out that the eze was giving me bowel problems: once again, no warning given by the prescriber!

I know my current GP would prefer that I took something to reduce cholesterol, but frankly as far as I can see the (non-RLS) side effects of the drugs I've been offered are all too much. I should try a vegan diet, but at present I don't have the willpower.

This doesn't mean that you shouldn't take anything - hopefully you don't have a tricky bowel - but read Justin Smith's 'Statin Nation' and discuss with your doctor.

… it’s much easier to go vegan when you think of the benefits to be found in addition to your health - for example, saving so many sentient beings from the incredibly cruel modern farming practices of today and then the huge benefits for the environment. Having been a vegetarian for over 40 years i still found it hard to go vegan - milk being something hard to give up. Thinking more about the dairy industry the immense suffering inflicted on dairy cows helped - watching and listening to output from PETA and other animal protection agencies made the choice a no brainer for me. Good luck if you ever decide to try it 😊

PS: Sue and Madlegs have both mentioned the likely eventual problems with rotigotine (Neupro) and the other dopamine agonists pramipexole and ropinirole.

Can you get Gabapentin prescribes instead? Research couple years ago talked about "Augmentation" a worsening of symptoms caused by these other treatments. The paper is posted on this site and the campaign asks sufferers to share with their doctors- sorry I can't find the link but I am sure an administrator will share 😀. Also if you get symptoms during the night, rather than when you're awake, it's probably Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD).
