Another very interesting study on RLS in medical students in Lahore.

The study mentions that many of the study participants were unaware they had RLS, until they had completed the questionnaires.

Also of interest is the young age of those affected.

It would appear that RLS may be far more common than current medical statistics show.

If more questionnaires like this are carried out in the general population, how many more people would discover they have RLS and that is the reason for their fatigue/tiredness?

Yes,that would be the most interesting fact to actually have a more precise number of suffers. . There must be thousands of people suffering and they don’t know what’s going on with their body. it’s just so frustrating when you don’t feel like anybody knows what you’re going through or even understand the condition or heard of it and that’s all true but there’s 1 billion other diseases out there that I’ve never heard of so I feel very fortunate for what our research and foundations are trying to accomplish. This is a big mad, crazy wonderful world and you all hang in there till we get some relief. 💜

Hopefully those medical students unaware of their RLS will go on to be knowledeable doctors who treat RLS or professors at Medical School who teach and lobby for others to teach about it.

Lack of sleep is a guaranteed increase in my RLS symptoms. Med students notoriously are sleep deprived. Add in the chronic stress of the occupation it's the perfect mix for anyone with genetic proclivity for RLS to start experiencing symptoms. My theory is any med student with severe RLS may have a hard time completing and finishing school and residency. Hard to sleep on demand.

I wonder if working shifts makes RLSmore likely. My restless legs started on night shifts as a nurse.

I read a recent research paper on the effect of night shifts on the dopamine system. It didn't discuss RLS, but anything that disrupts the dopamine cycle will have an effect on RLS (which follows the dopamine cycle). As with everything to do with RLS, more funding would result in detailed, proper research and trials of new meds.

Yes I had rls in my twenties now and again, I wish I knew then what I know now about pain points and how to keep on top of it with acupressure and moxibustion 🤔
