The Australian Product Information sheet for Temgesic, covering both the sublingual and injectable forms, lists hyperhidrosis (abnormally increased sweating) as a common side effect (i.e. less than 1 in 10 but more than 1 in 100 cases). It doesn't distinguish between the two forms in this context, and this can in fact be a problem with opioids in general.

Oxybutynin has been recommended for treating hyperhidrosis but it's also been reported as exacerbating RLS. Clonidine has also been suggested... Joolsg wasn't this something that you had to tackle?

Yes. It's really settled down now, but I think the anti histamines help.

Cetirizine?

I take either cetirizine or loratedine. The sweats are very rare now. Maybe twice a month. At first they happened several times a day. Very strange as it's just the head, neck & face that were affected.

How often do you take the loratedine?

It's very common on Buprenorphine. It does lessen with time, but I started taking non sedating anti histamines for Long Covid and they seem to help the sweats as well.I've been on Buprenorphine since June 2021 and my RLS is zero. The sweats were on my head and neck but I rarely get them now. Your body will adjust and they'll reduce over the next year.

Thanks for that tip. I have the sweats from methadone. It's so annoying. I'll try the non-sedating antihistamine.

Yes. I don’t tolerate any anti-sweat drugs so I manage it by using as little as humanly possible and keeping a fan on all night. I get cold at night sometimes so not using a duvet isn’t an option. I’ve been thinking of getting a cooling mattress though. I also try and keep the window open through the night when possible but have problems with sounds from outside. I take about 300 mcg, have been on it for a year and a half but it was worse when I took larger doses so can’t say whether it’s gotten any better over time.

I am on 5mg Methadone, sometimes my night sweats are worse then other times. I think if I'm well hydrated (and not constipated!) the sweats may be less bad, not sure though. Thanks for raising the point, unpleasant side effeffect!
