This may or may not be overly alarmist from The Guardian: theguardian.com/science/202...

Today's Guardian story:

theguardian.com/commentisfr...?

There was also a story about UK drug shortages on the BBC local lunchtime news today. But then the Right say that the BBC is left-biased, while the Left say it's right-biased.....

One wouldn't know who or what to believe.

There is always an agenda at work. Especially in the media.

The last med shortage, a few years ago, I had to substitute Oxycontin 10mg for Oxycontin 5mg. Not a big issue at all.

But if all Oxycontin was unavailable, then I'd be going up the walls ,looking for prescriptions for any alternative. And that could take months here in Ireland.

I'm here in the Canaries at present. And got a chesty dose. Back home ,I'd have to get a prescription for Carbocystine (Exputex). Here I just walked in to the Farmacia, showed them a screenshot of Exputex, and out the came with a bottle of their local brew. Job done. No prescription needed.

And I'm much better now, thanks for asking!😝

Keep well, everyone!

I could retire here when I get old.

Wonder has Banana5 a spare room?😝😍

Thanks for the articles. Yes it's bemusing that we can have some of the most advanced medical and bio science research in the world in the UK and yet we are unable to supply some of the basics for our population. I haven't seen too many posts about DA shortage recently but there were quite a few last year and I know there are certain dosages of ropinirole for example you just can't get. Maybe we shouldn't have offshored so much of our manufacturing capability.

Well I may be one victim of the drug shortage. After just one week on Targinact ( slow release Oxycodone) which was working well for me, I was told yesterday by the pharmacist when I went to pick up my repeat prescription that they had no stock and could not get any as there was a supply issue. I tried several other pharmacies; same answer. I had the worst evening /night for years as I was left with no alternative. My GP has now prescribed Oxynorm ( immediate release).

My brother-in-law had a delay of a few weeks waiting for an oral chemotherapy drug: thankfully it's come through now. When I was in the pharmacy yesterday someone was told to go searching around other pharmacies for something (didn't catch what).
