Recent Article on RLS, what do you think?

Found this recent article on RLS. I found it disappointing for a number of reasons. To name one reason, it doesn’t seem to recognise just how desperately debilitating RLS is. I think we understand RLS a lot more on Health Unlocked than in this article, where they seem to think of RLS as a minor inconvenience.

Wants me to pay £6.99 a month for a subscription to read it, (or £12.99 for a sub to Apple News), so based on your comments I shan't bother!

Without reading the article I see it refers to info from 2 GPs: I've yet to hear of a UK GP who is fully up-to-date on RLS - some are better than others, but they are not taught about it, and mostly see it as a minor nuisance rather than a serious condition.

And neither the NHS nor NICE is as yet on board with current research or thinking, so GPs aren't getting useful backup there.

The Mayo Algorithm remains the single best source of information:

So agree about UK GPs. There was a reply to a readers question about Restless Legs in Daily Mail earlier this week. Column is written by Dr Martin Scurr and he seems like a good doctor,e.g. does not believe that GPs can treat patients properly without face to face appointments , so I was shocked to read that he would prescribe dopamine agonists for RLS. I should have written to column to suggest he read the Mayo Clinic report but have not been very well this week and was hoping someone else would see article and respond.

Was it a reply like this one? That Dr Scurr gave to a reader in January 2023…

I cannot access it. If you would copy and paste it for us to read it would help me. Thank you

Sorry guys. You can only view this article if you have an active Apple News subscription. Or a subscription to “Stylist” magazine, which is where the article was published. Can’t find a way around this… sorry 🙄
