Informative Read
I was dubious about clicking that rather long Google link, although it's safe enough. This is a direct link:

Update: have only skimmed it so far, but note that Sue is being more forensic
I haven't finished reading it, so I will probably be back and edit this reply but it is mainly a regurgitation of the Mayo Clinic Algorithm which is not surprising since he was one of the authors.
I do see a couple of things that are wrong though. He says to take gabapentin all at one time or divided into 1/3 - 2/3 doses. I have sources for that is wrong.
He also gives the usual effective doses as different than the Mayo algorithm, and in the case of gabapentin the upper limit could not be obtained by correctly dividing doses into 600 mg 2 hours apart as one would have to start 10 hours before bedtime.
He does give a lot of references.
Thank you SO much for sharing. This is an excellent summary of how to treat RLS, using all the latest research and the Mayo Algorithm.Sadly, like the Mayo Algorithm, it still has dopamine agonists as treatment BEFORE opioids, although it does make clear patients should be monitored EVERY 6 months for augmentation/ICD.
I remember emailing Dr Buchfuhrer about this, because most of the US experts will no longer prescribe dopamine agonists. He said it was the only way to get international consensus, because some European RLS experts still insist on dopamine agonists, for example, where patients are obese or have respiratory issues.
