I am concerned about the dosage of Gabapentin. I am a petite female, 75 years old and slight in build. Is this drug safe to take at maximum dosage for all adults regardless of age, weight and size? Am currently building up the nightly dose and have also been prescribed Trazodol to also take at night, am currently weaning off sertraline. Trying to get advice from my doctors surgery is almost impossible! I live in UK.

I had very bad side effects and currently withdraw from Gabapentin it’s so many bad symtoms I got from just make sure you get right medicine for right problem and dosage as nobody tell you that there is bad side effects and withdrawal it’s hardest thing ever I had to go through .
The problem is that you have to withdraw from gabapentin very slowly. If you reduce by 100 to 200 mg every couple of weeks or so one doesn't have any withdrawal effects. Your doctor should have told you that. I am so sorry s/he didn't.
I am 76 years old and have taken 2400 mg of gabapentin daily, 800mg 3xday, for over 10 years (for neuropathy and anxiety). My doctor says I can go up to 3600 mg/day (max dose) if I need to. I don't think gabapentin dose is restricted by age, as is true for some other drugs, but you can Google it to be sure.
Hi. I presume (Snd I really hate using that term😏.) your physician prescribed Gabapentin for you. And, he SHOULD have prescribed the dosage based on your age & weight. My PC did & adjusted my dosage accordingly. (Decreased from 2800 to 1800mg daily. I’m 72 & weigh between 108-113.) The ONLY person who know if your dosage is safe for you is your prescribing doctor. If they fo not give you a satisfactory answer this may be the time to find a new doctor. Also, keep in mind Gabapentin is NOT a narcotic but it is a pain killer. I doubt you can get “hooked” on it. So, please contact the prescribing doctor. 🐺
