Promethazine Hydrochloride

hi I have been desperate for sleep but my RLS has been so bad that I’ve found it impossible

I managed to get a GP appointment and told her my story and background and although she was sympathetic said the RLS I’d very difficult to control

I told her I had no desire to go back on to a DA and my problems in the past with augmentation

And she said “ let’s try and get you sleeping first” which sounded a reasonable thing to me and consequently she prescribed Promethazine Hydrochloride which I believe is an antihistamine ? My question is will this make my RLS worse? So far I haven’t noticed any improvement but I’m only on night three but last night no sleep at all I’m desperate

I was told this prescription would make me sleep but so far no go does it take time to build up in the body?

I also take 250 mg Pregabalin and 60 mg codeine as well as a 1.25 b isopropanol fumarate each night

Any help or advice would be most welcome

I believe that is a sedating Antihistamine which will worsen RLS so won't help at all unfortunately. Trazadone helps with sleep but I find my RLS breaks through so that means pacing while drowsy .Explain to your GP that the Antihistamine is unsuitable and maybe ask for something stronger than Codeine such as Tramadol instead .Have you had your Ferritin iron levels checked recently?

Hiya. I am allergic to animals and in the past, have found that (1) anti histamines just do not work for me AT ALL in relieving my allergic reactions, and (2) they really REALLY aggravate my RLS. Personally I would keep well away from anything that contains them ....

Yes it is a sedating antihistamine that makes RLS worse for many. And except for it's sedating effect is not much use for sleep. I gather the zopiclone didn't work for you. If you don't mind being sleepy the next day (it has a long half life of 40 hours) you could try clonazepam.

Thanks for the reply

Zopiclone used the work for me but stopped doing the business I think my body got used to it because although it used to be effective is didn’t any longer
