Getting somewhere 🤞

Well from not impressed to impressed in one easy movement. Post my appointment with Doctor Jose Thomas I was finally able to see a GP at our surgery, not with the GP to who Dr Thomas addressed his report, he was apparently being presented with an award by the BMA for introducing a Triage system for non fave to face consultations, soon coming to your practice. Anyway I digress. My appointment was with a new doctor in the practice who was completing his GP training. He admitted knowing nothing about RLS but was very interested and read the report from Doctor Thomas and I can confirm that all the recommendations are being acted upon, Pregabalin in low dose to be increased every 7 days until reach 100 mg then a review. Follow up on bloods in a couple of months, hee was still concerned that my last Ferritin levels were high, even after I explained about the need for that level and higher in people with RLS. I also handed over a copy of my monthly Patient Reported Outcome Measures which score on rating scales, discomfort arms and legs, quality of life, Epworth Questionnaire sleeping in various situations, fatigue severity score and finally Insomnia Severity Index. I have been referred to a Sleep Clinic as recommended by Doctor Thomas so all in all going in the right direction.

I also took the liberty of putting together a file on RLS and added the presentation given by Doctor Jose Thomas at The RLS-UK annual general meeting. He is a European Somnologist, consultant in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. My GP was very grateful and said he would discuss with the other clinicians at their next meeting

Hopefully i have a convert and ally in this young doctor as he said he would be interested in learning more.

I will let the forum know how things go best wishes to all. HipHop1972

That's great to finally get a doctor who is willing to learn.

Yes it is, as long as Madlegs1 said in reply, gets swatted at the practice meetings.

"Start with the young"

Great experience.

Hopefully he won't be swatted down at the practice meeting!🤔

Good for you being persistent!👍

I wonder if we told the young and willing how to join this group. Just a week or so lurking would give them an education. Who knows -- in the US, PhD students are always looking for a topic for their dissertation and it could pique a researcher's interest.

Good job in gathering the reports and having your new doctor interested in reviewing them. It sounds like you made headway in having this doctor become knowledgeable and likely an advocate for RLS treatment.
