Iron Level for RLS

It is proven that we sufferers require over 100 when it comes to Iron . I have had RLS for 21'years and have a vast knowledge base. Now I am on 250 mg Pregabalin combined with 7.5 mg Targin.Symptoms are all over the place and waking me up during the night.

My recent Iron blood test results showed my level was 108. Because I was seeing another doctor while mine was on leave I had to explain the my levels are usually over 127. I figured my iron needed to be increased so I asked for an iron infusion. The dr. thought this was highly unusual but ordered it for me.

I am wanting opinions about this please .

Is 108 a bit low and possibly making my symptoms worse than normal?

108 is not low. Normaly one shoots for over 100 as you said but some also feel it needs to be over 200 or 300. It's great your doctor agreed to an iron infusion. So many find it hard to get even when their ferritin is less than 50.

Have you changed anything else recently, your diet or your life style or supplements you take?

Sue I couldnt find you via my usual route. When ive finally got off ropinirole then whats the procedure. Break from everything ? Up the gabapentin and how often ? Angela

I forget how much gabapentin you are currently taking?

High ferritin only works for some people.

Triggers need to be addressed - medications, food and drink can all affect RLS.

Are you keeping a diary to try and see if anything in particular is affecting you?

Everyone responds differently. If ferritin works for you, some find RLS disappears at 75, some at 100, some at 300 or higher. It's another RLS conundrum.

My doctor won't even consider an iron infusion for me and my levels are 32 !!

Change doctor. Unfortunately the latest science might mean our iron intake might have to be taken into account in future to try to reduce the risk of introducing a risk of dementia. It will take a few years to determine what the effect will be on RLS patients

but I suppose it depends on your age. Dementia in 20 years time is not much of a problem for me but if I was 40 years old it would be a terrible price to pay to avoid RLS

Hi I recently requested blood tests due to rls and when i phoned reception for results i was told no action required

I am trying to get blood test results added to the ‘mygp’ app so i can determine myself whether they require action
