coming off oxicodone

Despite the victorious stopping of my RLS, i am still struggling with sleep. I have been taking 10mg of oxicodone. One dose at night. But it had been making me dog tired and zombie like during day. I have read lots on here about spreading the dose but i want to come off it. I am starting to cut it down by a quarter. I note it has a short life, 4 hours.

What is your advice please on coming off it safely.

I am hoping that HRT is going to be my saviour. Been on that now for 4 weeks.

Thank you all you amazing people.

Why are you getting tired if it has a 4 hour lifetime?

You shouldn’t have trouble getting off it, it’s a low dose, and RLS patients generally don’t develop strong dependencies on opioids.

Some people don't get quality sleep in oxycodone which can make you tired the next day. Also, like alcohol you can have a slight hangover the next day even though it wears off.

Depends on the individual.

Good luck.

As it's such a low dose, you could cut in quarters and drop a quarter every 3rd night. You may have increased RLS for a few weeks though. My sister slowly stopped 40mg oxycodone after a bone operation and had RLS for the first time in her life for 4 weeks afterwards..RLS is a symptom of opioid withdrawal.

It will settle.

I was on 10mg of oxycodone which made me drugged during the day & wore off quickly so I am now on 10mg of buprenorphine and so far so good.I would love to come off all drugs but I simply have to take something otherwise my RLS are a nightmare.

I was on HRT for 10 years & it certainly did NOT help my legs.

Please let us know how you get on. I would be very interested to know.

The fact that you’re tired during the day may not be the oxycodone. I also take oxycodone 5mg (and 1500mg of gabapentin) and I do not feel tired during the day. Of course I agree that everyone is different and may experience a drug differently.

However, I also have obstructive sleep apnea and use a CPAP device.

When I don’t use the CPAP device I am tired during the day. The CPAP device has been a godsend and has improved my quality of life

So my question to you is .. have you had a sleep study done? Do you know if you have OSA ?
