Coming off Ropinirole

I have been slowly weaning myself off Ropinirole over the last few months since starting Targinact , but even following the guidelines overnight is particularly challenging. Sleep is difficult & it feels like I am on a ship & all I can feel is the vibration of the engine running. I was on 2 Mg a day now down to 1.25 Mg.

I am persevering & wondering how long it takes for the reaction to subside.

I am on 2 mg and the legs are ‘still’ at the moment but I am gaining weight and when I remove the patch there is irritation where it was ‘stuck’. I always place the new one in a different place to the position of the previous one.

I still concerned as time goes by that I will experience augmentation as I did with the ropinerole ( which was evil!)

I have suffered with insomnia for thirty plus years and I’m afraid sleeping tablets dependency is another problem!

I’m not sure that was helpful but RLS is ghastly and I agree with that suggestion that it should be referred to as Ekborn disease as the name restless legs doesn’t have a serious ring to it! .

I misread the question so put it down to lack of sleep. I am wearing Rotigotine patches to which I was referring. This was following a gradual withdrawal from ropinerole as tar Gina the alone were ineffectual. Apologies for the confusion I may have caused.

It took me a long hard year to reduce from 3.5mg to zero. The last set of reductions can the hardest. However the way to do it is in small steps over a period of time. Give at least 2 weeks between each reduction, longer if necessary. The difficult bit is just after a reduction, but you will get there! You're not alone in this.

Thanks - it's a long slog that.

Yes but it was worth it to get rid of the augmentation. I eventually went on to a cycle of low dosage Pramipexole/Ropinirole. When my body started jerking again then I'd swap over to the other DA. However in the end I started on Temgesic and that worked wonderfully (at least for 3 months).

I have been coming off Ropinirole for the last 4 months & have reached the point where I have reduced from 2 MG per day to 0.125 Mcg a day at night. I normally wake after 30 mins asleep to severe RLS activity (jerks, fidgeting etc) then after rolling around for 2 hrs it goes off & I sleep again. I am told the last step is the worst where I drop this 0.125 Mcg to zero.

Well it was the first night with NO Ropinirole after weaning for months - what a terible night. I felt like I was having minor convulsions all night until about 4 AM when I finally slept for an hour. Let's see what today & tonight brings.

Well done joe for persevering. I hope the convulsions and other symptoms diminish soon. 👏🏻

Do you take anything to replace the ropinirole?

Yes I have replaced it with Targinact twice a day.

That should cover your symptoms when the increased intensity due to stopping the ropinirole eases. It did in my case. Although I had to increase from 5mg to 10mg in the evening dose. I hope the Targinact works well for you and without or very few side effects.
