Ganodernum Lucida for painful RLS

A small French study of 20 patients with painful RLS trialled 950mg of a mushroom supplement called Ganoderna Lucida. 13 reported positive results. It's a tiny study and they didn't include a placebo group.

But if you experience pain as part of your RLS, it may be a useful addition. The study reported only mild adverse effects in 2 patients. A headache for one day and mild diarrhoea in another patient for a short time.

Thanks Jools. Hopefully they do a follow up study with more people. Medicinal mushrooms seem to be used / trialled more and more for all sorts of conditions. I found the following statement from the study interesting:

Thus, treatment with GL (ganoderna lucidum) might alleviate the chronic oxidative stress that builds up progressively in the brain of patients with RLS.

Thanks for that Jools, worth trying even it ones RLS dosn't include pain in the conventional sense of the word.It would be interesting to know how long the product took to take affect.

I take a mushroom sup' for chronic fatigue, Liones Mane, I believe you were trialing it? Dont know if you are affected but they give me some energy early in the morning. Still need bed after a few hours awake though!

;)

interesting I’ve just seen Lions Mane advertised on Indigo herbs as a tincture

I get most of my sups from British Supplements, no nasty fillers.I do wonder if tinctures reach the blood stream more quickly?

I just started using Lions Mane as a tincture per my daughters recommendation. Worth a try I think.

Study said it was 2 months..13 had relief after 8 weeks, 11 still had relief at 11 weeks.I take Lions Mane for my MS.

I'm not sure whether it's helping or not. I haven't had an attack and I've been free of any MS meds since March '22. So maybe it is helping?

but gabapentin makes you sleepy and Lions Mane gives you energy doesn’t one fight against the other. I only take a low dose of Gabapentin at night but I would like to come off medication, just worried Lions Mane will keep me awake at night

I hadn't heard that Lion's Mane gave you energy. In MS it's used to improve nerve connections & to improve walking. I take it at breakfast and maybe that would work for anyone wanting to try it.

I tried lion’s mane mushrooms. It improved my RLS considerably but gave me terrible anxiety and insomnia. I was so disappointed to have to stop.

Thats a shame :( How long were you taking it for when these symptoms appeared?

It happened right away and just got worse as time went on. Was only sleeping 15 minutes at a time with a total of maybe an hour. I kept trying though. Resorted to opening up the capsule and dividing powder up in little piles. Finally had to give up. Really disappointing because it really helped my RLS.
