Iron Panel Interpretation

Sue wrote, "You want your transferrin saturation to be over 20% but less than 45% and your ferritin to be at least 100."

My results:

- Iron, Serum: 74 mcg/dL

- TIBC: 267 ug/dL

- Percent Saturation Transferrin: 28%

- Ferritin: 176.0 ng/mL

Assuming the units of measurements for ferritin are what you expect, apparently my numbers are OK? And if so, it's not iron issues causing my PLMD?

Well, it was worth investigating, as it certainly didn't occur to any doctor/PA/NP I've spoken to. Thank you.

As far as Rx interactions might go, my daily cocktail is 20 mg Trintellix at waking, 900mg of gabapentin in the evening, and 1.5mg Lunesta 15 minutes before sleep, . As needed: clonazepam and naratriptan. Monthly: aimovig for migraines.

Trintellix is an SSRI antidepressant which make RLS worse for most. Safe antidepressants are Wellbutrin and Trazodone. There are even anecdotal cases for Wellbutrin helping RLS symptoms. And Trazodone can help anxiety and insomnia.

Did you do the test in the morning and fasted? Were you supplementing at all before the test? Ferritin rises in the presence of inflammation, did you do any inflammation markers like SED rate or CRP?

Sorry, I have to ask.

Yep, 830am, fasting ~10 hours, no supplements.

Didn't have any inflammation markers tested.
