Can't reach Prof Walker

Hello đź‘‹

Just a quick one, we have been trying to get in touch with Prof Walker as he seems to be the most recommended UK Dr for RLS, but we can't actually get through to his secretary.

I have tried numerous emails and even been given a phone number which just rings out.

Does anyone have any up to date details for his secretary so we can see about getting booked in to see him?

Or alternatively, is there another Dr who can help with RLS.

You may remember that my husband went through a horrible DA withdrawal (still happening we think) and is now on oxycodone.

It's been a struggle with the GP (a complete understatement btw) and the dose of oxy he is on is ok, but is still not correct. they refuse to prescribe anymore (current dose is 25mg I believe). So I think it's time to try and see a private specialist who can take the stress out of this whole condition.

Anyone who has my useful information about how to contact prof walker's secretary or any other recommendations would be most appreciated đź‘Ť

Thank you all so much!

Amy

I haven't read your history, but 25mg of oxycodone through the day should be more than enough to control RLS.If he is still withdrawing from some other drug, then it may take while to settle down.

Check iron levels and triggers.

I suspect he is inundated. You could try his colleague, Dr Dhanjal.

I had little success on 25mg Oxycontin and 150mg pregabalin after augmentation on Ropinirole.

It seems there are many people who struggle after dopamine agonists.

Your husband may have success on Buprenorphine or methadone.

The Gwent sleep clinic may also be able to help your husband as they prescribed methadone recently to someone struggling on opioids.

But that is in Wales.

Wales is right next to England. London to Cardiff by train takes about 90 minutes. Bristol to Cardiff less than 30 mins. They may live close to S.Wales and be willing to drive. Most of the UK can be easily reached by car or train.

I'm sure the sleep clinic will consider phone consultations in the same way that Prof. Walker and Dr Dhanjal do.

That shows my ignorance of geography. Sorry.

You might want to print out the Mayo Clinic Updated Algorithm of RLS at Https://mayoclinicproceedings.org/a... which says the usual effective dose is up to 30 mg.

A long shot, but failing the location of a professorial consultant, if you haven’t tried it already you could contacting your nearest hospital sleep clinic, arrange a diagnostic sleep study and then ask the clinician in charge to stand surety for opioid prescription. That’s how I’ve managed to address the issue of GP reluctance to employ a bit of compassionate imagination. Good luck!

Please let me know if you have any success. I'm in the process of looking to see someone and he seems to be the best option however if he's hard to contact then maybe not. I'm feeling quite low and desperate which, of course, we all feel! Thanks

Hi Amy, I can give you details from when I was able to contact Prof. Walker's secretary in early April.

Her name is Jennifer Martinez. Her email address is:

jmartinez@queensquare.com

Tel. no. 07436331577

I hope this helps. It is very difficult to contact Queens Square Clinic as often the telephone is not answered but when I eventually got Jennifer's details she was very helpful.

Best Wishes

His secretary is : IBEJI, Ngozi (UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST) but, as Jools says, he is inundated. The wait for an NHS patient is about a year. You may be luckier if you private. Good luck x
