Pregabalin

How long can you sit on pregabalin? Has anyone been taking it for years? Or is it better to switch to gabapentin? I read online that pregabalin is toxic. I don't know if this is true or not?

Yes you can take it for years. Looking up pregabalin and toxic. That is for overdoses far higher than what is prescribed as the maximum dose for RLS. Like 1380 mg for a 150 pound person where as the max for RLS is 450 to 600 mg.

I’ve tried both, I’m currently on gaberpentin although I agree Pregabalin is better. My problem is on Pregabalin I gained weight quickly.

I have gained a lot of weight too. I have tried Weight Watchers but I am finding it impossible to lose the weight.

Hi I have been on Pregabalin for several years for RLS and did gain weight but have managed to lose it and maintain over the last year. Recently had symptoms but someone here mentioned caffeine, and I realised I had been enjoying a few cups of caffeinated coffee a day! No more, and the legs are back to normal again. Shows how sensitive RLS is.

I've been on both, but I've been on pregabalin for around 10 years. I tried weening off but had to go back up. I've put loads of weight on, but not sure if it's due to that, or how I'm so immobile these last few years, with the menopause I'm going through.x

My Gp wants me to start weaning off duee to kidney imbalace, I am currently taking 125mg twice per day and GP wants to cut evening dosage out completely, Do you think that this is a drastic move as I am not wanting those horrrendous side effects? I have been taking these for General anxiety Disorder for approx 7 years. Thanks Lynne,

They should give you some 50mg tablets, as I was told to reduce in 50mg doses. First few days taking 100mg, then 50mg, I was always made to go up or down gradually. This was also explained to me through the pain team prescriber as well as my gp. Good luck.x
