Pregabalin

I read a disturbing report in the media today regarding Pregabalin and addiction and also reports of death amongst Pregabalin users. The age report was from anything from 20,s to elderly. When Pregabalin was used with opiates the frequency of deaths rose sharply

This is obviously most upsetting with people like me who have used Pregabalin for years .

I have often told my GP of my concerns re: addiction but it fell on deaf ears!!

I suffer badly with dizziness loss of balance and chronic insomnia and I use 200 mg Pregabalin and 60 mg codeine each night and the lack of sleep is awful

The problems lie with abuse, illicit sources, and addictive behaviours.

And most were taken with other drugs. Not to worry. Doesn't apply to us.

Unless you have an addictive personality😀

BTW: dizziness and sleep disorders are just two of the many listed common side effects of pregabalin. Usually however these reduce after a while, but you've been using for years.... Presumably it controls your RLS and you've discussed these continuing unwanted side effects with your doctor? Have you previously tried gabapentin instead, as some find that side-effects suffered on one are less on the other?

I saw the times has an article about it - I will go read it now. As someone who’s been on 200-100-200mg Pregabalin (3X a day) plus co-codamol anywhere between 60-1000mg 2X daily to 4X daily this truly worries me!

As I said above "And most were taken with other drugs. Not to worry. Doesn't apply to us. Unless you have an addictive personality"

Also see the 2 other links ChrisColumbus gave above which discussed this.

Do you have RLS? I don't see it listed on your profile.

I would say that all drugs are potentially ‘addictive’ in one way or another and I’m sure someone is going to say that that doesn’t apply to certain life saving medications. But I think anything that causes side-effects will be difficult to come off, and that’s already a sign that the body is ‘addicted’ or hooked. Just my uniformed opinion. I think doctors are very narrow minded in this regard. On the other hand, I have read that only 20% of the population have an ‘addictive personality’ which is a whole other ball game - i.e. that’s not most of us, and RLS specialists agree that we don’t tend to be that way. Perhaps some of us even lack the capacity. I know I do. The drugs ‘normal’ people enjoy, make me sick.
