Pregabalin dose

I have only seen that 600 mg is the maximum dose of pregabalin. Is more ever prescribed?

Thanks and may you all have a peaceful evening.

I should have said - not by a responsible doctor.

If an already high dose of pregabalin (eg 450mg) is not working, I'd be questioning whether it's the right medication.

I agree with that statement! I feel that if Pregabalin alone doesn't work even at 300mg, you need to consider an alternative. In my case, Pregabalin (150mg) acts as support to Methadone (5mg) as primary.

Hi! I recently went to see Professor Walker, who is one of the leading RLS specialists in London / UK. I am on 300mg Pregabalin, and he remarked that 300mg was already "a high dosage". So I would agree with Amrob, anything higher than that, may not be the correct tablets to take if they are not working.

That said, I do take my 300mg Pregabalin every night with 0.125mg or 0.25mg Ropinirole (ie dopamine agonist), as Pregabalin on its own does not seem to work 100%.

Again, Professor Walker said that taking Ropinirole in such a small dose every night was absolutely fine. Augmentation only starts if you take more than around 2mg a day.

Hope this helps.

After everything we have heard about the effects of Ropinirole I find it difficult to understand taking even a small dose is recommended

I would dispute that point on augmentation. I had confirmed augmentation beginning at 1.25mg ropinirole in my case. 2 mg might be a norm threshold but it isnt a minimum for all for sure

For info my neurologist also has indicated he would not prescribe beyond 300 mg Pregabalin / day.

I have found Pregabalin seems to work in a non linear way….I’m now 9 mths in . I have risen dosage slowly ie 4-6weeks per 0.25mg increase due to nasty side fx that wear off each time over a 6 wk period.

In short I hit a threshold of 100 which seemed to have a major impact for 3 mths . Then effectiveness seriously dipped off ..I then rose slowly again and hit another threshold of 175mg which is where I am now and effectiveness stepchanged again. The neurologist has complemented this with 250mcg of Clonezapam from the outset

It’s not perfect but it’s pretty good.

I don’t know how long it will last but it’s just a bit of unpredictability one has to live with.

If one is only on ropinirole, augmentation can start on any dose, even 1 mg.

My neurologist in Sheffield UK has put me on an up to 300 mg of Pregabalin dose. Not allowed above that. I am on 125 mg at the moment (slowly increased) and it's working.
