This is the first update since 2016 when they started abruptly stopping peoples Opioids without care factor or tapering.

The new guidelines explicitly advises against abrupt discontinuation or rapid reductions of opioids.

That is based on sessions learned over the last few years as well as science about how the real harm that can result when patients are abruptly discontinued or rapidly tapered.

The release of the guidelines is really about advancing pain CARE and Improving the lives of patients living with pain.

It is about the benefits outweighing the risks for long term chronic pain that 1 in 5 Americans suffer.

Interestingly ( but not a surprise to me ) the current overdose crises is very much driven by illicit synthetic opioids

Updated guideline was published November 3 rd 22 in the mobility and mortality Weekly report .

Also available in mediscape.

Really important to mention chronic pain if you are asking for specific opioids for RLS after all we all know RLS is a write royal Pain ….

Please be mindful all opioids are NOT equal and work differently and hang onto different receptors in the brain. Also we are all different so finding the right opioid for you is also important.

It's about time. I'm curious what other ailments respond well to opioids besides RLS and pain of course. I've read about low dose opiod use for depression and anxiety for treatment resistant cases, but it is extremely uncommon.

To get opioids PAIN IS ALWAYS THE KEY WORD

No test to disprove 😀

ABSOLUTELY!! I know the pharmacy I used to get my buprenorphine from wouldn't fill the prescription if the doctor didn't include the words "for chronic pain" in there.

My doctors office went toe to toe trying to explain to my insurance company that my Oxy prescription wasn't for pain management. We ended up victorious and if the situation was less serious I would have been more amused at some conversations that were had.

Shumba, Thank you for all the info. What a team we are. Awesome. Can you tell me if Oxycodone might worsen RLS. I am taking high doses of it for pain.

Hi Josana

How long have you been taking ?

What’s your dose ?

Has your RLS worsened in recent months ?

Have you had any memory issues since Oxy ?

I have been taking 10mg of Oxy 4 times a day for several months. I had one surgery on my back and in January ta rod will be put through 10 levels. I have memory issues from not sleeping. I don't know if Oxy has caused my RLS to worsen. I certainly hope not. Do you know of anyone that had had RLS worsen with Oxy?

My heart goes out to you ,My daughter aslo has had back surgery a double level fusion and now neds S i joints need fusing.

I had my daughter switched from oxy to Buprenorphine patches.

Buprenorphine PATCH works in an extremely high percentage of RLS sufferers

it is also used for pain management .

I would ensure it has no naloxone then you could add quick acting form as in ENDONE PRN.

In my opinion for me OXY made my RLS worse it added no value and caused respiratory depression and horrendous memory loss.

I did a clean switch from Oxy to Buprenorphine2mg sublingual

I was on 20 mg slow release once daily plus to 5 mg endone twice daily and stillnox I did a clean switch from Oxy however you would need a high dose Buprenorphine and patch form.

My case was so compelling a doctor {Dr Joseph Denor }I meet on a cruise ,emailed me saying he was so inspired by my story that he did his buprenorphone waiver .He was the medical director for 2 large aged care healthcare facilites in Issaquah WA USA .

Benefits were not just resolving RLS also improved memory, alertness and balance resultuing in less falls.

I to need a triple spinal fusion which I cannot have.

This is my go to for pain relief

I use traumeel and zeel injections which are my biggest saviour, also I have a compounding doctor the cream he comounds contains

KETAMINE HLC 10%

Ketoprofen 10 %

GABAPENTIN 5%

LIGNOCAINE 2%

MADE IN LIPODERM CREAM

My daughter an I both use an electric bed with an electric blanket

Also for really bad pain episode CBD with THC will help you sleep with it.

The CBD will build up over 2 months and help with imflamation disease which is very much associated with back disorders. The THC also helps with inflamation it works differently however I do not take THC nighly even though 3 doctors have now told me I should and that it would work better.

CBD daily

thebeautyelixer - I love this natural handmade product RLS pain cream use it 4 to 6 times a day I feel relief in my shoulders and neck instantly. The CBD part of this cream takes 3 days to build up, like ise if you dont use it for 3 days the cbd will be out of your system. ZERO THC in this product.

In your condition it would be very reasonable for you to ask for Buprenophine patch singular NO Naloxone. It come in several doses.

I hope this helps

Hi Shumbah, I got my doctor to prescribe Buprenorphin,e. Along with it , he refilled my Oxy. Pharmacist said they could not be taken together. I have to wait until tomorrow. Will the Bupren be enough to control my pain, or do I need something else? How long do I have to be off of Oxy before starting Bupren?
