RLS and nuts

Just wondering if anyone has noticed if eating nuts aggravates their RLS?

I have always eaten lots of nuts in the evening, particularly salted macadamias, but have more or less stopped and my RLS has suddenly improved.

Great that you've identified a trigger for your RLS.

I eat lots of brazil nuts and walnuts but they're all unsalted. I dont seem to have any food or drink triggers but many people report certain foods and drinks worsen their RLS. Maybe salt is your trigger?

Salt is a notorious trigger for RLS.

RLS is the result of what you've eaten throughout the day although it may not have appeared until you eat something that takes you over the threshold. In your case the nuts are taking you over the threshold although what you ate earlier took take you up to just below the threshold. That thing is carbohydrate, especially refined carbohydrate like sugar and bread and refined seed oils which contain minute traces of hexane and Roundup weed killer.

Hi Eryl, I always read your replies with interest, since you seem to have overcome RLS by diet alone. May I ask what you DO eat, please, as you seem to have cut out so much that I wonder what’s left to enjoy!!

I eat most real foods with special regard to protein from meat, eggs and fish, a lot of veg with special regard to leafy greens and onions, beetroot and coloured foods like sweet peppers but most important is that I avoid processed foods, even bread and other wheat based foods and fruit juices. The only fruit I eat is berries in small quantities.

Thanks Eryl. In fact, my diet isn’t dissimilar, although I do eat fresh, seasonal (and often home grown) fruit too, yet RLS is still the bain of my life ☹️

it could be too much fruit or the wrong tupe of fruit (higg sugar)., or refined seed oils causing inflammation.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve found I can’t digest nuts. So there could be something to do with difficulties digesting certain foods, then them causing havoc to the serotonin in the gut, and this in turn could trigger RLS. It’s just an idea but I’m saying this because of how I’m observing my IBS.

I eat brazil nuts and almonds for breakfast everyday as a way to keep my RLS under control. I also eat peanuts and cashews on a regular basis and have never found them to affect my RLS.
