New diagnosis

I have posted on this site before in regards to my daughter and her restless legs syndrome. She was on a very high dose of morphine as a last resort which of course caused augmentation and misery. She ended up in a Health Care Center and did manage to lower her dose to a manageable level with the goal of kicking it completely. Well then Covid hit, she was discharged early and ended up relapsing. Then a miracle occurred. She found Suboxone which changed her life dramatically. She is now functioning so much better with no withdrawal symptoms and amazingly no RLS. Complicating matters was a very strange occurrence of both feet swelling up to the point of not being able to wear shoes as well as being painful. She went back to her doctor and after many tests was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency in both legs which turns out may have been the catalyst for her RLS. My question is has anyone else ever experienced anything similar? She felt very vindicated to finally have a physical cause for her RLS and before she has surgery for this condition I’m wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar. Your comments would be very appreciated.

Morphine is a doubled edged sword. If you get the right dosage it dulls the pain but the side effects are difficult to manage.

I agree with you, as my daughter found out morphine became the problem, not the RLS. But thankfully now Suboxone has been a miracle and shows no sign of augmentation.

I just found out this morning that I have chronic venous insufficiency, and found research that is very promising that if you treat that problem, many people’s RLS is improved, some even cured. The treatment is fairly noninvasive. See ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl.... I’m eager to follow up.

Thanks for your post. Her surgery has been delayed for insurance reasons (waiting for pre approval). Her surgeon has had very little experience with Suboxone, so changed location for the surgery to inpatient as he’s wary of complications from the Suboxone. We’ll see how everything goes, but thank you for your response and good luck to you.
