I'm on longtec 20mgs for the dreaded RLS.
It's been great ( mostly) for stopping the symptoms however for the past three weeks I've felt depressed. I'm wondering if any one else has had this happen to them?
I've been taking the drug since October last year.

Are you taking that medication every 12 hours? Or just once per day? Are you predisposed to having depression? My guess is you're having slight withdrawal between doses and your body is flaring up the depression to get you to take the oxycodone.
Thank you so much for your reply. Once a day BUT today I've decided to take some of the dose in about one hour. What you've said makes a lot of sense and I'll let you know chow I get on. I think you're spot on with you help!
Longtec should be taken every 12 hours to avoid mini withdrawals.I actually think it should be taken every 6 hours as it does NOT last as long as it's supposed to.
I stopped taking it because in my case it caused flare ups of RLS rather than depression.
Try every 12 hours and see how the depression is.
Thank you Joolsg... that's exactly what I'm going to do..I really wish doctors were more approachable ( as we've said) ... I'm going to ask for a referral to Prof Walker... I saw him privately last time and I'm willing to pay again if the waiting list is too long.

It is thanks, the buprenorphine is still stopping all RLS and letting me sleep 8 hrs minimum every night. Hopefully, that will happen for you pretty soon. Hope Prof. walker can see you soon.
Longtec is exactly the same as Oxycontin.It should be taken every 12 hours.
Some people find it only lasts about 9 hrs ( me!)
And in that case one could take an Oxynorm 5 to take care of the 6 HR gap.
I take 2 oxyc 10 and 1 Oxynorm 5mg per 24 hrs.
That is 25mg of opioid per 24 hr. That dose is more than enough to control RLS.
In the rare case where I'm affected by a trigger, I take 250mg of paracetamol/ acetaminophen which is enough to potentiate the opioid.

I've actually taken the advice of taking a paracetamol if I get a break through in the night. You advised that and I tried it... excellent advice many thanks.I need to convince my GP to up my dose of oxycodone... wish me luck .

Hmmm i wonder if there would be a similar issue with tramadol, which I’m taking to help with going off of pramipexol.
Paracetamol acts only as a potentiator for opioids already in the body.
It does nothing for RLS on its own.

Summy, I have taken oxycodone for several years and do believe it has caused me to feel more depressed. I have had a history of depression, due to lack of sleep from RLS I believe. I think the oxycodone has made it somewhat worse but as you have read, this is not the case for everyone. The oxycodone has treated my RLS better than many other medications. A balancing act always. If you want a safe antidepressant, trazodone is it and in some cases actually helps RLS.
Thanks Sue. I have taken that is the past but think it may have contributed to other issues. Hopefully it will work well for some.
There are others. If you are not in the UK, Wellbutrin is one. If you are Norpramin , Pamelor and tianeptine are safe.
