How water foot massagers

Four weeks ago I had hip replacement surgery and because of limitations, I’ve had to find alternative ways of dealing with RLS and neuropathy. I found soaking my feet in a tub of hot water brought some relief to feet and lower legs. This made me think about how water foot massagers. Has anyone found them to be helpful with RLS symptoms? Thankfully I am up and around more now, but still spend lots of time sitting, and RLS creeps up on me.

I also have found some relief with soaking my feet in hot water, but have not tried a water massager.

Is your RLS under control?

It's tolerable with meds, but some days it seems out of control. Not sure if it's due to diet or other factors.

What medications are you taking?

I am on the Neupro patch (2 mg) and 600 mg of gabapentin. I'm also taking iron supplements.

Have you considered coming off the Neupro patch and increasing your gabapentin? Up to 70% of people will suffer augmentation which believe me you don't want. And you are taking a low dose of gabapentin.

Thanks, Sue. I've tried higher doses of gabapentin and the side effects were too much for me. Also, it wasn't working as well as it did initially. I've experienced augmentation before on pramipexole and ropinirole, so I know what I'm up against. I went to Mayo Clinic several years ago and they recommended Neupro, but that was before they came out with their most recent protocol. I have had a little improvement with the iron supplementation. I am resisting increasing the dosage of Neupro, and hoping that something new will come out before it gets worse or I experience augmentation again. I hope I can avoid opioids. I appreciate your input.

Dipyridamole is the new thing. In the winter 2022 edition of Night Walkers, the publication of RLS.org there is an article by Sergi Ferre about dipyridamole discussing the effectiveness of it in a 2 week double blind placebo controlled study showing it completely ameliorated all symptoms. The study was by Dr. Garcia Borreguero movementdisorders.onlinelib... A number of people on this forum and another one I am on have tried it and some have said it completely eliminated their RLS.

Thanks for the information. I'm glad to hear that it is working for people. I will discuss it with my doctor, and hope she is receptive. Otherwise, I'll look elsewhere.
