Update on "should I delay increasing gabapentin" and Magnesium

A few weeks ago I asked whether I should delay increasing my gabapentin because. I had RLS on 11/21, 11/22,12/2, 12/13, 12/19, 12/26, 1/1, 1/5 and 1/11, or after 1, 10, 11, 6, 7, 6, 4 and 6 days. I saw my doctor and he suggested magnesium. When I mentioned this to my husband he told me that the bone renewal that we take for osteoporosis contained magnesium. Sure enough, the 5 capsules I took each day had a total of 420 mg or 84 mg for each capsule. Since I took 1 at dinner time and I knew that magnesium within 3 hours of taking gabapentin can interfere with its absorption, I moved that capsule to lunchtime. It has now been 2 weeks and I haven't had any RLS symptoms since.

Great that moving the magnesium timing has allowed more absorption of the gabapentin.

Thank you. I've just started gabapentin. I had no idea about not taking magnesium with gabapentin. Must have missed the original post.

Sue, along with the RLS, I also have osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. I am not currently taking any medication for any of the three but do see a rheumatologist in 2 weeks for the arthritis. Would you mind sharing the name of the osteoarthritis med you take that also has magnesium in it please?

Sorry, I realize it is the osteoporosis med you take that has the magnesium in it. Would you share that one please

I don't take anything for my osteoporosis either. You must have me confused with someone else.

You mentioned in your post above you and your husband take "bone renewal" for osteoporosis that has magnesium in it

Oh, oh, oh - you are right. I hadn't realized this reply was in my post of 8 months ago and I was thinking you were asking about medicine. It is an OTC supplement I get from Amazon called Bone Renewal by Pure Synergy. It has 410 mg of magnesium per serving. I take 5 servings a day.
