Low Residue Diet

People who undergo surgery to the digestive system must adhere to a low residue diet until their healing is complete. This means avoiding dietary fiber of all kinds, because fiber is not only an obstruction but a source of fermentation and gas build-up. Undigestible food matter and the resulting gas can cause up to 200 lb (90 kg) of pressure on the nerves and arteries in and around the intestines. If this pressure is responsible for RLS, a low fiber diet would benefit RLS sufferers.

Well, that's entirely possible for SOME people, but for the majority of RLS sufferers it's neurological and biochemical. My RLS was totally iron deficiency related and neurotransmitter imbalances continue to cause protracted insomnia. I for one take fiber supplements, probiotics, and fermented vegetables on a daily basis - with a nod to studies showing SIBO to be present in many RLS Suffers.
