Ranitidine advice
Hi Jumpey, Zantac is listed on the RLS-UK website as a medication to avoid: rls-uk.org/treatment
"Antacids: Medications to treat nausea can worsen RLS symptoms. This class of drugs includes: Anitvert, Atarax, Benadryl, Bonine, Compazine, Phenergan, Thorazine, Tigan, Trilafon and Vistaril, Zantac."
Ranitidine is a H2 inhibitor and hence can make RLS worse. The same for all H2 inhibitors.
Note that Proton Pump Inhibitor antacids also make RLS worse. e.g. omeprazole, lansoprazole or anyprazole.
To neutralise stomach acid use a more traditional antacid magnesium based or alkaline. Ask a pharmacist for advice.
Try Pure magnesium jell with aloe at night. If wake up, massage the lower leg....Stroke and knead. This replaces pain pills and augments relaxation AND FOCUS to tell it to go away.
I have had severe restlessness with Prilosec/ Omeprazole but strangely no problem with Ranitidine.
I recently stopped taking atorvastatin (w doctors advice not related to my potentially severe RLS. It seems my symptoms have reduced. Anyone else? I am going to try to reduce my pramipexole/gabapentin usage. Slowly!!!!
