Maybe this is why I have a 100 bottles of supplements - all from Dr. Google! Anyway if you try Vitamin E - select "natural". Natural Vitamin E delivers vitamin E in its natural form—as d-alpha-tocopherol—with d-beta, d-delta and d-gamma tocopherols. Also Magnesium elicited a paradoxical reaction to me - excitable and not relaxing at all. I settled on taking Magtein (magnesium L-Threonate) in the morning. Also consider dietary mg - pumpkin seeds (330+mg/serving) and cacao powder (about 100mg/Mg per 2.5tbsp from the package). Curious, cacao contains about 2mg of iron in the same 2.5tbsp.
Hi John, I have started taking vitamin e, but not for RLS. Recently there was a study done on the feces of people with chronic fatigue syndrome, as well as their relatives, and of course controls. The feces reveal the gut microbiome as you can well imagine. People with CFS were low on members of the good Firmicutes family of bacteria, low on d-tocopherol, high in bacterioides and as a result low in that great chemical- butyrate, as least as compared to controls. So I’ve been taking vitamin e which is supposed to increase Firmicutes and then supposedly butyrate. Then I will be cured of CFS. Maybe if I went to bed early instead of reading all these articles I would be cured 😕.
Anyways, gut microbiome affects brain function. No surprise there. Good luck figuring out which does what. Butyrate supposedly keeps dopamine neurons healthy. Somehow researchers figured that out and have given it to Parkinson’s patients along with Niacin with good outcome in terms of dopamine transport. Or maybe it was lab rats induced to have PD? However, the latest thinking is to instead give patients a pre-biotic insoluble fiber, like wheat bran or chitin, which Firmicutes LOVE as well as other butyrate producing bacteria in our gut
Getting back to you - maybe by taking vitamin e, especially without a fatty meal, means that it’s not being absorbed and heads straight for your Firmicutes that then release butyrate and relieves your RLS. Talk about going out on a limb. Don’t take my word…read the below article:
Everything in our body is linked somehow someway. Remove one card (such as vitamin e or butyrate ;)) and the whole deck falls. altmedrev.com/blog/the-pote...
