Radio Interview on RLS

The second interview I did with UK Health Radio has been released and is available to download/listen. Not sure if there's a large audience but if even one doctor listens to it I'll be happy.

Aaw thanks Kaarina. 😊

I listened to your interview after it popped up from the RLS fb page on my newsfeed it was 2-00 and yes i was awake with RLS playing up. Another brilliant interview you packed in so much information on RLS thank you soooo much for all that you are doing. I will again post it to the other groups on fb that i belong to. Again thank you for getting out there what RLS is and the impact it has on the sufferers lives. ❤️

Thanks Elisse. I'll talk about it until the RCGPs starts to listen. Sigh. It's such an uphill battle. If you're lucky enough to have a good GP who will listen and read the info , like me, it'sfine but so many are still refusing to accept it's a serious disease.

in reply to Joolsg

A lot of doctors are not happy to read info which will help the patient they see it as telling them how to do their job. which frankly they are not when it comes to RLS

It's so sad. Every day we see the effects of lack of training and knowledge. Putting patients on really high doses of dopamine agonists and then refusing to believe augmentation exists. It really will be a struggle.

Yes thank you so much Joolsg for doing this interview. I just listened to it. It was so informative and clear! I m sure this will help people. Fortunately my RLS is under control since I became 99% vegan! Its left its scars though and I m always on the look out for it rearing its ugly head but so much more reassured because of this forum.Thank you all again.

Brilliant and another very informative interview, I will add the this second one to the Flash Drives which I intend to deliver to my GP and The uniformed Doctor at the pain clinic if that is ok as well . It is 8 days since my last Ropinerole Slow Release so am now pausing to make sure it is completely out of my system but in a month or so I will tackle weaning myself off Sinemet Plus which I am absolutely dreading ! Thanks again Jools you are giving hundreds if not thousands of people hope , I am certainly following all the excellent information on this

site ….life savers !!

Hi Joolsg - just listened to your interview, thanks for being a great ambassador in the fight against RLS. Loved your explanation of RLS and its impact and enjoyed hearing a bit about your own background. You never know, someone with health budget influence might be listening 🤞

This is my first posting on this forum, prompted by listening to your brilliant radio interview which I found really helpful. I experience just about all the symptoms you mentioned, predominately during the evening and throughout the night I also experience occasional symptoms at times throughout the day. There is absolutely no doubt, in my mind, that I have RLS and have done for many years. I did mention it to my GP during a conversation about taking Statins, during which I told him that I would not not be taking them, as I wouldn’t be able to cope with any less sleep.

We didn’t discuss my RLS any further; on my part, because I didn't want to take any of the medications which have caused so much distress to so many people, I also assumed that my own symptoms might be regarded as mild compared with other people.

Thanks to your interview I now realise that my symptoms are far from mild and that I need to talk to my GP again and, at least, ask for a blood test to check my iron levels.

Thank you so much.

I'm so pleased you will speak to your GP again. Dopamine agonists are no longer first line treatment. If raising serum ferritin above 100, preferably 250 and serum iron above 60 doesn't help, pregabalin is the first line treatment amongst experts and helps many patients.

Thanks Scatty Patty. Writing to our GPs and the RCGPs is one way to increase awareness. One day they may start to listen. Fingers crossed.
