Back in the day when I was first starting medications to treat my RLS the doctor started with Mirapex and then Requip.
At the the lowest dose of each there was quite a reaction. I can "firmly" say that I could not tolerate these medications because they caused painful priapism. Not a very common reaction but definitely very concerning. Doctor agreed they weren't a good idea to continue. This may have possibly prevented a long troubled relationship with DAs that so many of you have described.
Wondering if any other gents here have experienced this problematic reaction to these medications?

No. I was told to cease immediately after a day or two. It's not something you can handle for very long without risk of permanent damage. I do feel sorry for all those who have suffered the more insidious side effects of these drugs. Here's to hoping that future generations of RLS sufferers will benefit from our current trial and error throw spaghetti at the wall approach.
The only thing that helped me with restless legs is Gabapentin 600mg and Ferrous 325mg. I take this twice a day. I tried all the different opiates and all they did was make me so dizzy and sick. Once started the above I mentioned my restless legs are gone. I have been on this for over a year with no trouble. I suggest everybody try this.
I'm glad works for you. Hopefully it lasts a long time. I think lots of people here have tried or are on Gabapentin. It's the go to drug of choice for all sorts of things and doctors are prescribing it like candy these days because of it's relatively low penchant for side effects and because opiates and benzos are out of favor. I tried the name brand if it Neurotin about 20 years ago for RLS and didn't get any relief. Recently my psychiatrist prescrbed it for anxiety at 4x300 a day. Unfortunately it increased my suicidal thoughts and changed them. Normally those thoughts arose quickly during an episode. On Gabapentin, the suicidal thoughts were very matter of fact with little emotion attached to them. That scared the shit out if me.
I was on requip for a total of 8 years. For the first 4, I was on 1mg and then all the way up to 9mg when I stopped. I was taking it for RLS and once I went over 4mg, bad things started to happen. I have pretty foggy memory of the time period between 6 and 9Mg, but it made me do things I didn’t seem possible. Your mileage may vary, but I recommend being cautious
