Forced off morphine

I stumbled on your post and sympathise greatly.

I have been suffering with long term chronic pain and was taking morphine for many years and pregabalin to help with the pain.

2 years ago I started getting some neurological problems and turns out I have temporal lesions causing chronic migrain numbness and confusion, the doctors pinned it all on the morphine and pregabalin and forced me to discontinue both medicines. I had to go through a medical rehabilitation which was tournament and agonising and has left some very mental scares and now I have chronic rls. They haven't offered any other medication to help me live with the chronic pain or the rls just anti epileptic drugs to control the migrain so the damage to my brain doesn't get worse. The morphine and pregabalin worked for me made my life a little more bareable now I have no help and just suffer my days away.

I really do sympathise it's a terrible thing for anyone in pain to go through. Xx

Just a tip, if you want to reply to someones comment, you need to click on "Reply to" or "Reply" underneath their comment.

They then get an email.tellingbthem.you've replied.

If you try to reply by starting your own post, they won't get an email and won't know you've replied. Othervreaders will be mystified about who you're teplying to.

Opioids (especially morphine)and alpha 2 delta ligands are no longer recommended for chronic pain. Nonetheless.it apoears unethical.thst you should be "forced" to stop them.

However, pregabalin IS recommended for RLS. If your RLS has got wirse following pregabalin cessation that's probably why.

You need to discuss this with a doctor however as pregabalin is primarily an anti-convulsant and can help prevent migraine.

Codeine can be used intermittently for RLS, but for refractory RLS the opioids oxycodone, methadone or buprenorphine can be used, (NOT morphine).

The difference is that these are low dose for RLS not chronic pain.

The recommended alternative to pregabalin or an.opioid for pain is an antidepressant.

NOTE antidepressants make RLS worse.

Sounds like you're going through an awful time. I hope you get the help you need. Everyone here knows and understands the misery of rls, and it helps to know you're not alone. Don't feel silly, we all make mistakes, and its not always easy to find your way around a new forum.
