RLS and urine in the bladder

Hello, I have had RLS for decades, it is gradually getting worse, as you would probably experience too, I feel like it could drive me insane!

One thing I find is urine in my bladder, which has been discussed here can definitely agrevate it, I need to keep expressing urine, sometimes over a few hours, even when I don't feel like urinating, I finally get down to a teaspoon before I can finally settle and fall asleep or actually pass out from exhaustion!

This may sound really weird and wondering if anyone has tried this...as a last resort I use a vibrator to have an orgasm, I'm female, and this totally settles my restless legs and I guess with the endorphins released I can finally fall asleep.

This also appears to support the theory that there is a connection around the nervous system, bladder and RLS.

Would appreciate any feedback on this.

Sincerely.

Self release definitely helps rls. Huge dopamine rush. Which makes sense as thats what the Parkinson's medications are trying to create. Also the distraction helps. Gets you out of your own head which after decades of this shit definitely messes with your brain.

Not sure about the urination issue. Possible that your bladder or pelic floor muscles are actually experiencing similar restlessness. Last ten years I've developed bad arm symptoms and in the torso area. My theory is, if it has nerve endings its fair game for being effected.

Yes there are apparent connections. One theory is that is has soemthing to do with the vagus nerve. Another is that it is soemthing that it is to do with the Enteric Nervous System, a kind of second brain (uncosnscious) found in the abdomen.

Another possibility is that it is a kind of sensitive bladder. Have you been tested for this?

Endorphins are always good, no matter how you stimulate them! Hot chilli peppers are not my preference though.

I can't go more than several days without hot or spicy food. I think it's an addiction for me. Others who like the heat tell me the same thing. At least it's an easy fix. When I'm feeling blue a spicy meal usually helps.

I guess it's the endorphins :-)

Yes, I have noticed this. If I go to the loo my restless leg is better. If I feel I have urine in my bladder my restless leg gets worse and I have to get up and go to the loo- really tiring.

Yes I can relate to both the urine issue and the masturbation. It could be psychological but I feel my legs are worse when I need to relieve myself. Having to relieve myself 3 or 4 times a night is tiresome. Sometimes I just put a bottle next to my bed so I can relieve myself without having to get up. But it’s still an inconvenience. In regards to masturbation this was my go to for years. Since 2012 I have had problems. Was prescribed siffrol and it quickly went from .25 tablet to 3 tablets without helping much. I’d take 2x Panadeine 15mg codeine as well with no effect. My only relief as a last resort was masturbation. This had a 95% strike rate in terms of relief. My legs would settle and my brain turned off and allow me to go to sleep very quickly. This went on for about 5 years or so before I noticed that the relief from an orgasm seemed to gradually lessen. I still try in vain every now and then these days but it seems to have lost its effectiveness. I wish I still had this as an option as my more recent forays into cannabis oil, gabapentin and lyrica (amongst other things) has not given me any relief.

I’m finally off the siffrol. It gave me such a difficult time these past 6 months trying to get off it only to go back on. I got dizziness and vomiting even on the smallest dose at the end. (.25mg divided by 4)

My latest foray as prescribed by my doctor is magnesium baths, magnesium tablets and spray. I tried to tell him that I’ve done these before ( except the spray) without results yet here I am, sitting in a bath tub whilst typing this message.

Anyway, I can attest to both your stories.

I've never experienced any association between my bladder and my RLS, but then I have a peculiar bladder (that's another story).

I can attest that quite a few people do experience a relationship however and some explanations have been offered, but not really ending up with a solution except to "keep going".

I suspect the relationship is possible something to do with the general restlessness you experience when you "want to go".

If that's the case at then it may be that's there's a problem with bladder emptying or sensitivity.

The bladder is a muscle so can be oversensitive. (Simiar to how RLS is an oversensitivity). There are stretch receptors in the bladder wall and stimulating these causes contraction of the muscles.

Your bladder sensitivity can be measured by "urodynamics".

Not knowing your age or gender, apologies if this isn't relevant, but another possibility for older males is prostate enlargement. This creeps up on you slowly and you may dismiss it as yet another sign of age. (I won't dwell on others). This can cause overstretching of the bladder.

If this is the case then measures which may have had some effect before will slowly begin to be less effective.

The classic signs of an oversensitive bladder are

Urgency

Frequency

Nocturia - (need to get up in the night) more than twice a night.

The classic signs of enlarged prostate are -

Urgency

Hesitsancy - in starting

Frequency

Nocturia

Bladder not emptying fully.

I have the same issue. When there is urine in my bladder it triggers my legs.

I can attest to the link between the bladder and RLS. For example, an hour ago I tried to snooze but could not as my legs started twitching and once I went to the toilet then I was OK again. I have noticed this link for at least 10 years. Whenever my bladder is full then my legs twitch badly.
