Does anyone use Clonazepam 500 micrograms at night for their RLS?
Clonazepam: Does anyone use Clonazepam... - Restless Legs Syn...
Clonazepam
I've taken it a few times. My doctor restricted it to courses of only 4 weeks at a time because it is potentially addictive.
It helped me sleep a little better, but not significantly. It did nothing for my RLS symptoms It's not a RLS medication, only a sleep aid.
I was taking a RLS medication at the same time.
I find sleeping the problem. It does help me sleep, quite well. I have heard that some of the dopamine agonists can make your RL worse in the long run so I'm not keen to take those.
If sleeping is your main problem and you find the clonazepam works then that's great. Still be aware that it's considered addictive.
Dopamine agonists are no longer recommended as the first treatment for RLS.
I’m new to this so what would the first line treatment be? Does anyone have recommendations? I’m in the UK. Thank you community.
Alpha 2 ligands are now the first line. But iron levels and food/ medication triggers should first be checked out.Much RLS can be sorted or endured without medication.

I have had RLS for approx 5 years…tried all the pills available including the ones for Parkinson’s ….. I now seem to have hit on something that works for me….not saying this is the answer for you….but may be worth a try….my RLS only affects me at night….I take one Cocodmol efferecent at 10pm then oneClomazapam 11pm. .I know that these both have side affects an could become addictive but I am willing to accept that as I now sleep from 11.30 all the way through to 7.30am….ABSOULUTE BLISS….no RLS….BEST OF LUCK…..I can sympyathy with anyone and everyone for the nightmares of RLS….keep trying till you find the one thing that works forYOU as what works for one person does not neccasery work for you…..all the best
I did for a while but found it ineffective so stopped it.
Yes I do, 4 tabs taken about 9.30/10.00pm, have Pram, Gabapentin, and others, it does allow me to get 6 1/2 hrs, sometimes staggered.
I had an unusual reaction to taking clonazepam which was prescribed to me years and years ago. I took a dose of it and had a rage reaction to it. I suddenly had the worst feeling of anger and lashed out against a computer that was acting up, destroying a keyboard and a window. This is not something that ever happened to be before. When I took another dose, I again became so angry inside that it was scary. In spite of how I was feeling, somehow my husband (not a typo) managed to take me to the physician that prescribed it. My neurologist explained that in me, the clonazepam calmed that portion of my brain that keeps me from being upset and irritable, therefore I acted out. Never took another dose of the medication and never had this happen to me again.
Hello Kidneyeng,
I take Alprazolam which is similar to Clonazepam. I take .25mg each evening as prescribed by my doctor to reduce my RLS symptoms. It works for me. I also take some iron supplement (Iron Glycinate, 28mg every other day). So far -so good.
I was taking Sertraline for a short time...But it seemed to me that it was causing more RLS than less- So I stopped taking it.
I use it last thing at night simply for its sedative effect. I am hoping that this will obviate dependence.
