UTI, Kidney Stones, and Antibiotics

Omg, more and more keeps happening. I had to go to Urgent Care this morning because of extreme abdominal and lower back pain. Turns out I have a kidney stone and a UTI. They gave me some IV antibiotic called Rocephin, and I’m almost certain it caused some increased restlessness. Thankfully they prescribed the oral form to continue at home along with some Vicodin (hydrocodone-acetaminophen). Hopefully if I take the Vicodin with the Rocephin it’ll cut down the restlessness.

Has anyone experienced worsening of symptoms on an antibiotic? And has anyone experienced a worsening of symptoms while having kidney stones or a UTI? Just thought it was super weird.

Kidney stones can be caused by high oxalates. some say a low-oxalate diet can help rls. It has helped me.. and many antibiotics make rls worse.

I would avoid any Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic (commonly prescribed for UTIs) - e.g., norfloxacin, ofloxacin, levofloxacin, and ciprofloxacin. They have an FDA (USA) Black Box Warning essentially saying use only for life and death only situations! Lots of horror stories - mostly tendon ruptures, but also gut dysfunction and other problems.

A diet high in oxalates is a usual culprit of kidney stones. Put Oxalates in the search box. There are a few earlier posts about it and RLS.
