Sciatic

Hello. I have suffered from RLS for years. I'm 53. Tried a few meds. They work for a while then it's augmentation time. I am currently on pramipexole. If I don't take by 7:30 pm I'm suffering. I have sciatica and degenerate discs. When pain starts I notice RLS is worse. Has anyone had the same situation?

Its late so I'm afraid I can only give you a very brief answer. I may add more tomorrow depending on what other responses you get. The detail is important.

As you've suffered augmentation before and appear to suffering it now, then you need to withdraw from the pramipexole and preferrably never ever take any dopamine agonist ever again.

If you have spinal degeneration like me, you may benefit from taking either gabapentin or pregabalin.

These medications are used BOTH for nerve pain AND RLS.

Hyperexcitable nerves are factor in both your conditions and the neuropathy will make your RLS worse.

The gabapentinoids work by calming nerves down.

I would suggest that they're both made worse by chronic inflammation. This is adding to the inflammation caused by the trapping of the nerve which is causing the sciatica. When I had sciatica, I found it a help to do mobility and stretching exercises to ease it, and get a swivel chair to use at my computer so that I could turn to look at other things without repetitively twisting one way. The easiest way to reduce chronic inflammation it to adopt an anti inflammatory diet.
