Having multiple problems with RLS, body pain from arthritis and nerve pain, insomnia almost all my life. I started self-medicating with kratom seemed to work well for a while. I had to continually increase dosage and started having More problems with insomnia and depression episodes. Finally decided to get off kratom and my doctor prescribed gabapentin. This has been a lifesaver for me. I immediately started sleeping much better, my RLS has gradually decreased, the depression went away and body pain has been reduced significantly. I've been taking this only for a few months but right now this feels like a life saver for me. I have no side effects and I'm hoping this continues forever.

Lifesaver
I'm very pleased that the gabapentin is working well for. I hope it continues.to do so.
Glad to hear that you've found something that works for you Randyrue.
randyrue, Did you slowly wean yourself off Kratom? How long did it take you? And did you start the Gabapentin before being completely weaned off Kratom? thanks
I quit taking kratom during the day first but continued to take it at night because it treated the RLS which I figured I need it for sleep. Problem was my insomnia increased but not because of the RLS. The night I started the Gabapentin I stopped the kratom at the same time. That night was my best night of sleep in ages and I've been sleeping well ever since, a few months now. Ever since I was a child I have struggled with insomnia and now I have not slept this well ever. My body pain and depression have gone away along with the RLS. I'm crossing my fingers to hope this continues.
As far as the kratom is concerned I do feel the cold turkey off kratom there was a gradual withdrawal for maybe a week or so before I started feeling kratom free. I personally feel krat om has potential and is easier to control than opiates but there's a tendency to continue to take more. Plus these other symptoms of depression and insomnia became debilitating to me.
I have been on gabapentin for a little over a year and at about the 8 month mark it had to be increased because I couldn't take it anymore. It has been increased twice since then and as soon as this pandemic is over I'm asking my dr. To either increase again or change. It only works well for a few months. I'm also waiting to see the neurologist again and waiting to get another nerve study. Good luck with the gabapentin, I hope it works forever for you.
