I have had a problem with muscle spasms in my legs for several years now i am a woman of 62 and they have got so bad that I couldent get to sleep at night and if I did they would wake me up again, in the hot weather it has been unbearable I felt like a possessed animal I have spoken to my GP about this on several occasions only last visit the G P suggested that I could try a drug that they use for Parkinsons disease I declined. I have now been diagnosed with Osteoporosis and have been given a Calcium 1000mg chewable tablet as well as other medication that you take once a week to help my bones since starting the Calcia -D tablets I have now have not got any problems with muscle spasm s in my Legs at all. I sleep through the night and it is wonderful so I now think that because my calcium levels were lowish that this may have been causing this massive problem with my legs.So i wanted to write this on hear as you never know this could be you.

Well, am glad for you. Just an FYI, RLS is not muscular, it is a movement related neurological sleep disorder, and has nothing to do with muscles. Hope things stay quiet for you.
Hi Mabelina, your GP was right to give you a "parkinsons" drug if he/she thought you had RLS.
Luckily, it sounds as if your GP may have misdiagnosed you. Although you can get muscle spasms with RLS it's not the main or only symptom and since you only mention spasms, then I'm guessing you don't have RLS.
The calcium helping does sort of confirm that.
I hope it continues to work for you.
As with my RLS, I began to get muscle spasms in my calves and feet. It’s not a RLS thing. Mine simply went away by increasing my water intake. I currently drink 64 oz. and my spasms have completely disappeared. I was just dehydrated and didn’t realize my body was screaming for water! It will help so much more too. Drink up!
