No-- Horizant is Gabapentin designed to be absorbed by the body more easily, thus allowing lower doses.

Gabapentin and Pregabalin are in the same family of Alpha2 ligands- basically nerve pain medicines . They typically take a few weeks to take full effect.

At high doses they can have serious side effects.

There is a slow release Pregabalin available- but very expensive. ( Forget the name- (Gr-- something)

Cheers.

It takes 2 weeks to get pramipexole out of your system BUT withdrawal symptoms can last months. DAWS is very real .

Sadly, you have to be patient once off dopamine agonists. It can take some time to find the right combination of meds.

I think the expensive version is Gralise. I hear it's VERY expensive, but is essentially the same stuff. Alpha2delta ligands Gabapentin, Pregabalin are used for a variety of things, epilepsy, nerve pain migraine and RLS, but they act in a particular way, whereas RLS appears to be a consequence of several things.

You might need a combination of medications.

If you're not sleeping, some doctors might prescribe, (at least in the short term) a benzodiazepine, typically, Clonazepam.

Have you heard of Dr Buckfuhrer, you could also email to ask for expert advice. Go to

rlshelp.org

and click on the yellow email button on the left side.

It might be worth trying horizant. There are people who don’t do well on one (either gabapentin or pregabalin) and find the other works well. At the minimum you will have ruled out another drug.

Sorry to hear you’re still having a tough time.

After you have augmented on pramipexole it can take months to find the right combination of meds.

You said that tramadol 50mg at night was helping. Many people take tramadol for RLS so that is an option.

Pregabalin takes 3 weeks to become effective so it is still early days. You should give it at least another month to see if it works for you.

I would ask your doctor to keep you on both meds for another month to see if they work for you.

And the spliff will help- so try it now and again at night.

Hi Memmy, I was Pram and I weaned off. It took a little over 4 mos. It was the worst rls I ever had. I'm currently on, after some tweaking, Horizant 600mg 2x a day and Tramadol 2x a day. I take it all in the evening. It's working for me now, so far. My side effects are really dry mouth, a little sleepy during the day. Good luck with finding what works best for you.

Hi Memmy, I have been on Pregabalin 250mg and 100mg Tramadol for over three months and though it worked for a while it’s not working the same now. It’s 5am and I have not slept all night. I have also been prescribed 10mg Fluoxitine would that be part of the problem lately? Like you Memmy I am not sure I will continue Pregabalin, but really don’t know where to turn next! To sleep for a few hours would be heaven.

Fluoxetine will definitely be the problem.

Most anti depressants make RLS worse. Safe alternatives are bupropion and Trazodone.
