It is interesting reading all the blogs and the various precibed medications that are taken and I am now very wary of being prescribed them and would like advice on more natural products for RLS and sleep problems. I have just begun a meditation course, go to the gym, do body balance and do my best to walk 5 days a week. Would love to know natural products that help.

You might want to try magnesium baths, lotions or oils. Sometimes when I am having a bad night, I will rub on magnesium lotion or spray magnesium oil on m legs and it does help a bit.
I agree. In the UK medication less likely to be prescribed. I think the side effects of the medication could do more harm than RLS itself. We need to find less harmful ways of dealing with RLS. I still find exercise, music and relaxation useful and my copper bracelets.
Compression stockings, especially if bunched up on my feet to provide extra pressure, are very helpful. Wish you well.
Here is a list of non-medical remedies in my arsenal. Maybe you can find something on here of interest to you?
-support stockings
-magnesium oil
-Epsom salt bath
-Relaxing Leg Cream by Magnilife. This can be gotten on Amazon.
-RLS-specific Rife Frequencies. These are like binaural beats and have the theory that different bodily symptoms respond to different musical frequencies, hence the need for the RLS-specific ones. You can find some 10-minute sessions by typing “Rife Frequencies RLS” into Youtube.
-jet-spray massage (shower head option) pounded right up against every inch of my legs
-a hot shower right before bed
-self-massage of the legs using various methods ( hands, massage ball with rubber spikes, and a hand-held heated massager).
-foot bath (although sometimes the vibration that shoot through the legs are enough to start an attack. Other times not, so it’s quite frustrating to have this inconsistency)
-3 exercises found halfway down this webpage:
healthline.com/health/restl...
-a weighted blanket. I ordered one of these from the States (sensorygoods.com) and it is 10% my body weight (although the recommended weight given on that site is 10% your weight plus 1 pound). It works well at keeping me in bed through my lighter attacks. Unfortunately, more intense ones and my legs move anyway. I find that it helps with anxiety as well.
Thanks sails for your info, already do some of what U recommend and will look into other options U suggested
I don’t think any of us like taking medication, I know I avoided asking my GP about it for over 6 months of utterly dreadful sleep which made me feel like a zombie.
Poor sleep in my opinion is probably worse for us than a carefully prescribed medication (along with self care)
Medication is not the enemy necessarily, but lack of sleep certainly is!
Yes lapsedrunner I could not agree with U more. We definately need good sleep as it can cause all sorts of health problems. Since I have withdrawn from 2.5 zyprexa my sleep is terrible. I think with good sleep your health improves. See my sleep doctor on 22/5/19. Let's hope he has some answers. All the best with your sleep.
