Diego Garcia-Borreguero is a real innovator in the area of RLS and is also involved in the investigation of the involvement of adenosine in RLS and of the use of dipyridamole as a possible treatment. Although dipyridamole did not help hugely with my RLS urge to move, it completely eliminated the awful creepy crawly sensation and dramatically improved my energy levels.

The usefulness of pregabalin (and other alpha 2 delta ligands such as gabapentin/neurontin) is now well recognised by RLS experts. It is worth being aware that studies now suggest that this family of drugs is less effective for those who have previously augmented on a dopamine agonist so it is important to try the alpha 2 delta ligands before embarking on a dopamine agonist.
