My intruduction

Hi, I am new here. I have had restless leg syndrome most of my life, but it only got bad around 12 years ago. It built up to every night so got little sleep. I eventually found both codeine and tramadol stopped it completely, so have been taking 30 mg codeine every night for the last 10 years. It has been brilliant, but now I have started getting medication overuse headaches! Hence Dr wants me to change to something else, but so far nothing works. So am continuing with just 15 mg codeine for the moment and taking propanadol to try to reduce the migraine.

Hi Anne, did you watch the program tonight,I cried to see these poor people & the people around them in so much distress!!

I have had restless legs since I was a child & I have been on a drug for at least 10 years now called Ropinirole & I would say nearly every night it makes it go within 20 minutes!!

Please give it a go!!

Hi Anne, I am surprised that your RLS treatment started with opiates, 2 of them.

Nonetheless, if they worked without harm that's great.

However, codeine, I believe, is not the most ideal opiate for RLS. See numerous posting a on here about that.

Oops, pressed reply too soon.

Furthermore, you say headaches caused by codeine, which is one thing, then migraine which is another.

If you definitely have migraine then Propranolol may or may not be suitable, I'm not sure. If you don't really have migraine, then I'm sure, it's not suitable.

However beta -blockers e.g. Propranolol make RLS worse.

Your doctor doesn't appear to appreciate either how drugs for one thing might worsen another or how drugs interfere with each other. It might be that the "something else" drug might not work at the same time as you're taking codeine, I don't know, it's possible. Propranolol, I'd say, is inadvisable.
