Does anyone else suffer breathlessness side effects from Naproxen and Co Codomol. I have suffered from knee pain for Four years. Also from leg spasms every night. Every time I mention RLS to my GP or physio they don't seem to know much about it. Anyone else relate to my experiences.

Rls
Hi, I can relate to your experience of taking Naproxen and co-codomol. In fact last year I had a course of Naproxen and Codeine phosphate. This was for nerve pain, caused by a spinal problem. Presumably, your Naproxen/co-codomol is for your knee pain. It depends what's causing the knee pain, but it's not obvious if this is in any way related to your legs spasms.
If the pain in your knee is nerve pain, then it is possible that it is related to your leg spasms.
Otherwise, the leg spasms do not sound like RLS.
Diagnosis of RLS is usually confirmed if 4 symptoms are present and other diagnoses are excluded.
These are
Unpleasant sensations in the limbs accompanied by a strong urge to move the limb.
It starts or worsens when inactive or at rest.
It worsens at night.
It improves or disappears when you do something.
RLS does not generally cause involuntary movements whereas "spasms" suggests the movements are involuntary. Involuntary movements can be quite violent, painful (like cramp) and mainly, you can't stop them.
Periodic Limb Movement Disorder is a separate condition, which is often associated with RLS. This does cause involuntary movements. However this usually only occurs when you're asleep and you may not be aware of it.
If you do not have the four symptoms above, then it would be best to explore other causes for your spasms.
Co-codamol can cause shortness of breath, it is a common side-effect. All opioids suppress normal breathing, and this is the chief reason why they are considered so dangerous.
Another thought is that Naproxen can cause water retention and hence raise your blood pressure this could affect your heart, hence breathlessness.
Co-codomol is mainly paracetamol and a fairly low dose over the counter opioid. Opioids can cause respiratory depression, but I'd say it's either the Naproxen, and/or you may have some underlying heart failure.
Thanks for your input you have given me lot's to think about.ill let you know how I get on.
