I have just had my blood Ferritin level results which was 38. I have read that it should be at least 100 when you have reat less leg syndrome. I am going to the doctors and should I ask for iron supplements or low dose iron tablets. Many doctors not up to speed on this subject so just asking what I should say.

Mine was 49, docs said it was fine. Ha, I read the Johns Hopkins website "A study has shown that in patients whose serum ferritin was < 75 µg/l, oral iron therapy on average improved RLS symptom after 3 months." For me, I used Ferrous Bisglycinate (18mg), daily on an empty stomach mid-morning. Severe RLS was gone in a month. hopkinsmedicine.org/neurolo...
If your in uk I would buy gentle iron from Holland and Barrett. Get it when it’s an offer. I take one every other night an hour before bed ( it’s supposed to work better that way) on an empty stomach. Iron bisglycinate Is supposed to be the best type of Iron to take the restless legs. It may take a while to work so don’t give up
I agree with Mum007. I take gentle iron pills and use an iron patch from PatchMD in USA every other night. Managed to get my ferritin up to 175-200 over 18 months & I have definitely noticed an improvement.
If I could get an iron infusion here on London, I would.
Your doctors will say 38 is fine- for normal patients it is but RLS patients need levels above 100. If doctor doesn’t help, just buy the iron supplements yourself.
