Thank you to everyone who took the trouble to reply to my post. I think I need a dose of “get a grip girl”! Thanks I am going to ask for a referral to a neurologist as I think I need some expert advice (at least I hope it’s expert).

Make sure you educate yourself as much as possible before you go. Don’t assume that because he is a neurologist he will know anymore than your GP. Go armed!

If you would care to let us know, roughly the area you are willing to travel to see a neurologist perhaps someone in the community can come up with a recommendation. Unfortunately as Pam says, not many neurologists know much if anything about RLS.

Hello i live in Birmingham and you are the first person on here ( that i am aware of) that lives fairly local. How did you manage to get a referral from your gp to a Neurologist ? Everyone on here are golden and will always help if they can but it is nice to have a fellow Midlander

I haven’t got a referral yet but my gp did say that she would refer me if the Gabapentin didn’t work as she can’t prescribe anything else. So I have to go back or telephone her.

I go to the sleep clinic at Leicester General Hospital, so might be worth asking your GP for a referral there rather than a neurologist? You will still need to go armed with knowledge as Pam34 suggests, as you don't get a lot of time with the consultant so there's little (if any) discussion of treatment options or risks.
