Has anyone taken a anti-histamine to combat the itch caused by taking Tramadol? If so which one?..

Opiate itch is a common side effect.

Most antihistamines will agravate rls. The itching will disappear after a while, so well worth sticking the course.

Eurax cream is quite good at helping with localised itching. Otherwise you could try Cetrine, which won't affect the rls, and just might help with the itching, but I can't guarantee anything. I use it for post nasal drip, so I know it doesn't trigger rls.

All the best.

Just keep in mind that with Tramadol, you are at the end of the road regarding effective rls medications. Oxycontin would be the next step, and it will itch just as much for a while.

"It will pass." Shanti.

According to the RLS Foundation, the allowable antihistamines are Allegra, Clarinex, Claritin and (mostly) Zyrtec.

The 'opioid itch' disappeared for me after about two weeks.

Hi there mistymin, I have been on Tramadol for 9 years and though I have experienced some itching it hasn’t been anything to bother me, it’s not a constant thing but when I feel it, it’s usually on my back and a good scratch will releave it. Sorry I didn’t help much, maybe someone else has. Solution for you. The only med I have taken in the past that DID cause bad itching is Codeine, so I avoid it and when I need to fill forms for allergies to medication I just put I have intolerance to it. Good luck.

I keep 25mg dyphenhydramine (Benadryl) tablets in a med caddy with me all the time. All the meds I take cause me to seem as though I have a Cold or a spot will just start itching and if I am not where I can put the 4% benzocane with Aloe, I keep at home I take a benedryl.

Well if you can take those without making your RLS go crazy then you are lucky, as most avoid it like the plague !
