Pramipexole off and on

Hello fellow sufferers.

Pramipexole works well for 3 weeks and then tapers off. What if I take it for 3 weeks and then come off it for 3 weeks. This way I would have 3 good weeks in every six, instead of 6 bad weeks. Perhaps this has been covered before but if so, I missed it.

Hello Peter

An intermittent 'drug holiday' is what several experts recommend.

That way, you ought to avoid augmentation. or at least push augmentation further into the future. Or are you already augmenting?

Some experts now think that pramipexole causes real addiction, not just dependence, so every way you can avoid that would be good.

Why not try alternatives during the DA-free weeks, such as an Alpha-2-Delta Ligand or an opioid, to see if you could get of pramipexole altogether?

Hello Parminter

I went back on to Pramipexole after a gap of 5 years. I have had 3 wonderful weeks. The legs haven't moved, not even a twitch, and 8 hours sound sleep every night. I feel human again. I think it almost worthwhile to suffer for 3 weeks and then back on to Pramipexole for another 3 weeks of bliss.

If you have found a solution that works, at least half of the time, then you're doing better than many of us! Good for you.

If it works then do it!!!! Pramipexole has been good for me but I am thinking of an alternative come the time it's does stop working. Will be interested to see how you get on. Very brave of you to stop the Pramipexole even if it's only temporary . Good luck x
